New Begining....

Now that the kids are growing up Grant and I are trying new things and doing a lot on our own. It was really hard at first to see Bre go, but now I see it as a new begining to do and go more places. Here Grant and I are down town at Temple Square for dinner and a visit to the temple we were married in.

We hiked up Adams Canyon one night. It is a 3.6 mile hike straight up, but we did it. Of course we got a late start and ended up coming out of the canyon in the dark with lightening and thunder. We only got lost twice, but we made it out. It was quit the adventure.

We have season tickets to the BYU games this year and take every chance we can to take someone with us like our good friends the Noriegas. It has been really fun!

My little boy is growing up way to fast. He asked Sarah to Homecoming and she answered him back by decorating his room. Of course she said YES!

Sarah had no idea where they were going for dinner. Austin planned a romantic dinner for them on a round about in Syracuse. It was very creative. She loved it and even called her parents to come and take pictures of it. We helped out by having it all ready for them. It makes me miss high school dances.

Bre Moves to St. George for School.

I can't believe my little girl is off on her own. I helped her move down to St. George where she will be going to Taylor Andrew Cosmetology School. She has really fun roommates and is having a blast! I haven't seen her since I dropped her off a month ago. I miss her terribly. I am not sure when I will see here, but I know she is happy.

Marissa had a fun Birthday. She went with her friend to boondocks to laser tag and race go carts then they came to our house for pizza and a pool party! They had a really good time. I can't believe my baby girl is 16 already. where did the time go? She has turned into a beautiful young lady with many talents.

Kiya Has Puppies

Over the summer Kiya had puppies. They were so adorable! We had no idea Kiya was pregnant until 3 weeks before she had the puppies. It was a complete surprise. The father was a black poodle yorkie so the puppies are only black. Such a contrast against Kiya. They all looked the same when they were born, but now they couldn't be different. Here are pictures as they get older.

The day Kiya had them. She did so good! She is such a good mom.

Here they are at 5 weeks and starting to look different. We had to give them nick names until we found homes for them so we named them socks who had white paws, curly who looks just like a poodle, and bear who looked like a bear when he was born.

Here they are at 8 weeks. Ready to go to homes. This was the day socks went home with a really good family. Curly will be going to out renters in the basement when they leave in 3 weeks and Bear is going to a family in our ward. All good homes.

After a stressful 8 weeks we finally got our basement and apartment finished. We are currently renting it. It is beautiful! I thinke we did a great job! It is 1,00 square feet, it has granite counter tops, tiled floors and shower, alder cabinets, stackable washer and dryer, and stainless steel applialnces. Makes you want to rent it right? LOL

These are two of my best friend! Heidi and Jenny. It was Jenny's 40th birthday so we felt like a getaway to Park City was called for. We had a blast! I ate Coby meat for the first time. Pioneer Trek!

Both Marissa and Austin went on pioneer trek this summer. They had a great time. I have to tell you that is was pretty whimpy compared to Grant and I's two pioneer treks. We would walk at least 18 miles the first day and sleep out in the open. These kids only went 6 miles a day and slept in tents. What pioneer slept in tents. That's why they are so happy! lol Oh well...they still got a taste of what the pioneers went through.

So not only do we have the most unique dove ever who follows us around, never leaves the yard when she is out, and knocks on my door when she wants to come in..... laid an egg. This was the picture on the front page of the Deseret News Sports page. Austin and Grant went to the draft for the 11th year in a row. It is a tradition for the Horsley men. They go and eat hot dogs and participate in an exciting time in the NBA. The photographer caught them in the middle of their cheering when the Jazz picked. Unfortunately Austin was caught in the middle of smiling and he ended up looking funny. Our whole ward got a good laugh over it and they kept treating them like celebraties.

Austin signed up for social dance at his school. He kept bragging that he was the best dancer and we would always give him a hard time. Once we saw him dance we realized that he was right. We decide to take a quick trip to Las Vegas to see BYU in the play offs. We had a blast! We loved staying at our time share at the Westgate Planet Hollywood. We swam and played games. Bre even befriended a celebrity. Marissa stayed home and enjoyed some time with her friends. She didn't think basketball games sounded fun.

Flying to Miami where we will board our ship the Carnival Glory since our last cruise ship caught on fire.

We decided we had time to catch a Miami Heat basketball game before the ship set sail. It was a blast!

Filming Outrageous Kids Parties

So I had my 5 minutes of fame being a part of a crazy show about a mother who spent over $32,000 on her 6 year old's Birthday party. I ran it at the Castle. It was pretty cool to have a producer of the show call and want to talk to ME! He was great....he has done shows like Little People Big World and Cake Boss. I was really scared about how they would make me out in the reality show, but I came out pretty good. Here are some photos of the filming of the party.

It was a really Merry Christmas with Grant at home with us. Finally a holiday this year we can celebrate as a family. My Mom came for the opening of gifts Christmas morning. It was so fun to have her.

A new Tradition!

So...we are shopping and talking about the different traditions we do at Christmas time and Austin speaks up and says,"How about as a new tradition we don't do our old ones but make new ones like making gingerbread houses." I thought to myself....why not! I mean why make my kids do something they don't want to just because of tradition. So we started a new one. The annual Horsley Gingerbread House Contest. It was so fun.

The Tradition of Candy Making!

Grant's Grandmother made homemade chocolates every year. The tradition was passed down to Grant's father and now Grant is making chocolates. This was the first year we made them all by ourselves. Grant was so excited. He made all of the fillings including orange, rasberry, lemon, mint, vanilla, and cherry nut. Here is Austin and Grant making their first batch. We purposely chose counter tops in our new house so that we could make candy on it. It turned out perfect!

The day of dipping is very busy. We have to roll out the filling and have in all ready for our dipper. This is her last year and then I will be dipping the chocolates. We have to have the kitchen at 62 degrees to have optimal conditioons for dipping. It was freezing. The whole family helped. It was really fun.

Val actually had me dip some to feel how to do it! I am a little nervous. Next Year's chocolate may not look as pretty as this year's.

We did 6 batches. I have no idea how many that is, but I know it was enough to cover all of our counter tops and table.

Angel, our new bird, has fit into the family just fine. She is no longer shy or afraid of us. In fact she has become too friendly. We have let her outside to fly around and she flies right back into the house.

She nests in our hair.

She sleeps on us when we sleep.

She has to be with us all of the time. She follows us around the house so she can be in the same room.

Her favorite thing is to land on your head. Especially if you are a visitor in our home. She coos so cute when she is happy.

She isn't even afraid of the dogs.

Of course there are little gifts she leaves behind sometimes. We are training her to go in one place.

Not everyone loves the bird. Although these two are trying to get to know each other.

Thanksgiving 2010

With Grant gone for another holiday we decided to make it an untraditional Thanksgiving. We went out to eat at Rodizio's Grill and then to a movie. There was no cooking, cleaning, or stress. It was so nice. We had a blast! We may make it a tradition every other year.It was fun to have my mom along.

Our favorite place to vacation as a family is our time share Westgate at the Canyons. We love to eat at Ruby Tuesday's, get chocolate at the Rocky Moutain Chocolate Factory, and shopping at the outlets in Park City.

We stopped at the Olympic Park on the way home. It is so cool to see!

Austin and I got BYU tickets from my brother Shane. We had a blast as mother and son. We even bought matching hats. Look how cute! I am so lucky to be the mother of such an amazing young man.

What? You have a bird?

Anyone who knows me knows I love animals. Maybe almost to a fault. I saw this cute dove when I went out to get the mail and I thought it was strange and that it looked out of place. So I tried to catch it and it kept flying into things. I lost it in the home that was under construction. I thought it flew away. Three days later Austin found it in the dumpster hurt. We caught it and I took it to the vet who said it had broke its leg. We bought a cage and are still taking care of it. It will let me hold it and pet it. It is a peace dove. Look how cute it is. By the way Grant has no idea about this since he has been gone to Guam. Poor guy....really?...one more animal? That will teach him to leave us. LOL

I found this awesome cage on KSL for $40 and gave it a fresh new coat of black paint. It's beautiful!

I leave the cage door open and she will fly out and then fly back in. Her leg is getting better each day.

Now that she is getting better she is acting ready to go. I think I will try and let her go later this week.

Bre just finished her intership as a pharmacy technician. She is now studing for the national test. Way to go Bre! Here she is at her job. We are so proud of her.

Our Neighborhood Trick or Trunk!

So I am the Activities Chairman in our ward and planned an amazing outdoor Tick or Trunk and carnival, but the weather was so unpredictable that I had to decide at the last minute to move it to church. It was a good thing we did because an hour later it poured rain. We also only planned on only 200 people and there ended up being 350 to 400 people. It was our biggest turn out ever. Everyone said they had a blast so I think it turned out OK. Here we are in our Halloween attire. Unfortunately Grant is still in Guam so he missed out on the fun.

Grant had never ridden in a limo before so for his Birthday I pulled some strings and got a limo for the night. We invited some of our close friends to go to dinner with us at Ruby River. We had a blast!

Ok...Yes this is a new dog. My daughter Bre brought home this cute abused dog when she found out she was going to be taken to the pound. You can't blame her. She is my daughter. LOL This is Kya. She is the sweetest long haired chiuauaua. She is house trained, doesn't shed, and fits right in. We have been looking for a home for her, but we haven't found the right one yet. Maybe we are the right home?

Bre's turn to have a birthday! Here she is having her birthday Breakfast on her 18th Birthday. Ian spoiled her. The bear was just one of her gifts he gave her.

All she wanted for her birthday was to go to Las Vegas with her friends. So Grant and I went with her and the girls stayed with us and the boys got their own room. It was a blast! Monte Carlo was a great hotel to stay at. We shopped until we dropped. The Blue Man Group was the highlight of the trip.

Marissa had her birthday party at The Castle this year where they played games and watched movies on the big screen. After the games and the boys left the girls had a sleep over and managed to scare themselves silly. I think I am done with sleep overs! They all had a blast!

After the surgery Bre was out and there was a tube draining fluid from her neck. Everything went well and she shouldn't have anymore problems with systs in her thoat again.

Her dad was so cute with her. She didn't do well after the going under and she was throwing up. She felt so horrible. Her dad decided she would do much better at home so he told the nurse he was taking her home and picked her up and carried her to the car. She is doing so good now and you can't hardly see the scare. We love Breanna so much and we are so blessed to have her in our lives.

Grant becomes a High Priest!

Grant was ordained a High Priest. It was perfect timing with the whole family in town. He was surprised and humbled by the calling. We are so proud of him.

My niece Lace and her sweet husband Leland got married on July 10, 2010 in the temple. It was a special ceremony that we were so lucky to be able to go. They are a beautiful couple.

We were really sad that while we were on our vacation to Jamaica Austin's baseball team won the championship baseball game. He played 3rd base, center field, and first base. We had great neighbors that took him to his game and cheered him on. We are so proud of Austin and his talents.

After a long 6 months apart we decided to pamper ourselves by visiting the most amazing place on earth. We traveled to the beautiful Island of Jamaica where they pampered us and made our stay one we will never forget.

They picked us up in a private car and gave us the presidential suite. It was incredible with its private swim up and hot tub on the balcony. They gave us everything we could image including a couples massage, candle light dinner on the beach, breakfast in bed, non-stop tropical drinks, and unlimited food.

I decided to throw Grant a welcome home party at The Castle. It was a blast! We had a DJ and tons of family and friends to help us celebrate his return with danceing and food. Thanks to my Castle Family we had great food including Zeppes! Thanks!

Before Grant came home my neighbors encouraged me to finish the yard and surprise Grant. I told them I was too tired to do it. My good neighbors Jimmy and Erik said”We will do it!” So it took one Saturday to rake and then the next Saturday to lay sod, plant trees, and bring in bark-a-mulch, I was so overwhelmed with the generosity of my ward and neighbors that I couldn't help but cry with gratitude. The yard was perfect!

After we raked all day we all went for a swim.

The day we layed sod it was so cold and rainy. I couldn't believe how people just dug in and got it done dsipite their misery.

Before Lace could tie the knot with her cute boyfriend we had to have family wedding shower for her. We had a blast telling her what her wedding day would be like and what her life would be like in 5 years with candy bar stories. She got some great gifts and we laughed a ton. Love you Lace!

Teaching is fun and field trips are even more fun. We had a blast playing at boondocks. We went on the bumper boats where the kids and parents ganged up on the teachers. We were drenched.

Bre's Seminary Graduation!

I am so proud of Bre. She was the only one in our ward to graduate from seminary. The night of graduation we couldn’t find the church that the graduation was being held at. Our bishop came to our rescue and showed us where it was. Unfortunately we were 10 minutes late and had to sit in the back. When it came time to give out the diplomas Bre was worried she would look stupid walking up there so our Bishop escorted her and it made a huge impression on everyone. My mom was proud of her and I was so proud of her. She is such a special person who will have a huge impact on so many people.

Marissa performed at both a dance performance and her singing concert. I am so proud of her. She is good at anything she puts her mind to. She is not only beautiful but talented too.

Finally we got the pool up and going. After we all worked a wedding we went swimming for the first time at 11:00 that night. The pool was 87 degrees. It was a blast!

Kristal is the event coordinator at The Castle and a really good friend of mine. We are like family at The Castle so she is a lot like my sister. She got married on May 15th and I had the honor of being her wedding coordinator. It was perfect. She looked beautiful. Here are some pics of us helping her get ready.

Kristal had a photo booth and we all took pictures for her to remember the day! Too fun!

The Castle girls got together for the bouquet toss and of course Bre caught it! Check out how she came from the outside and stole it from everyone. I sure hope she isn't the next one. She is my little girl. I'm not ready for her to get married.

I have the sweetest friend. Tori, my team teacher, wrote a letter about me to the radio station Kbull to win a free limo ride and dinner for 4. She wanted to surprise me for my 40th birthday because Grant was in Afganistan. Can you believe it?.....She won! I was so flattered by her kind words and love.

Have I mentioned that I work with some amazing people. We had a meeting with all the emplyees at The Castle and then we went and played at Boondocks. All of the employees are related to each other some how so it is really one big family party.
